Rose Bushes of Unusual Colours

Just Joey

from $25.50

Type: Hybrid Tea

Brand: Various

Stock: 26

Like a frothy, orange ice-cream soda, Just Joey’s red-veined, wave-edged petals and sweet scent add a bubbly touch of fun to your home and garden.

There’s a slightly feminist link to ‘Just Joey’. Named after Joanne, the wife of its breeder, Roger Pawsey, this rose might once have been called “Mrs Roger Pawsey”. It’s a sign of the times that, when discussing the naming of the rose over the breakfast table, the Pawseys decided that Joanne should be honoured by the nickname used by her friends and family – ‘just Joey’.

Prune back in winter, removing old and damaged wood. Shorten stems to a healthy bud bud to promote strong growth. Lightly prune after each flush of flowering. Keep well watered during dry weather but avoid wetting the foliage. Fertilise with a complete fertiliser in spring.

Just Joey is disease resistant, repeat flowering and grows to about 1 metre high.

Rose Society of South Australia: Just Joey was bred by Cants of Colchester, England, in 1972. It was named for the wife of the Managing Director of Cants of Colchester, Joey Pawsey. When Mr. Roger Pawsey asked her precisely what the name of the rose should be, she answered, “Just Joey”.
After 50 years, this Hybrid Tea is still very popular and it performs well throughout Australia and there are many fine specimens in Adelaide gardens. The plant is very well behaved and generally achieves a height of 1.5m and width of 1.2m. Flowers are borne one per stem and can be of immense size up to 16cm in spring and autumn, slightly smaller during Summer. The bush is disease and heat tolerant.
The flower is an eye-catching rich apricot colour with a loose, informal centre of pretty frilled petals. Probably its most seductive feature is its intense, spicy fragrance which will quickly fill a room, when a bunch is placed in a vase. This perfume is inherited from its parents (Fragrant Cloud x Dr. A.J. Verhage) also renowned for their strong scent. When introduced, its colour and size of flowers were considered innovative breakthroughs in rose breeding.
Just Joey received the Royal Horticultural Society Award of Merit in 1993 and was voted the world’s favourite rose when it was inducted into the World Federation of Rose Societies’ Hall of Fame in 1994.

Potted Rose Supplied in Plastic Pot or Gro Bag. May be supplied as a recently potted dormant plant during Winter while into Spring and Summer will be well established and pos-sibly flowering. A potted rose will be settled long enough to establish that it has a good sur-vival rate. Protect from frost and keep well watered.

Bare-Root Rose will be supplied only in damp paper with sawdust, sphagnum or peat moss and as the name suggests with bare roots ready to plant and must be planted immedi-ately after soaking for 24 hours after arrival. Bare-root roses have more risk of non-survival than a potted rose and generally one would expect 80-90% survival rates.

Water well and often with no fertilisers at planting for approx. 3 weeks until established.

Expect 2-4 working days express and 4-21 days parcel post after we have notified that your order is ready and has been consigned. Courier destinations to major centres normally overnight to 4 working days after notification. During busy periods or if goods need to be propagated or wait for bare root season there can be lengthy delays. We will notify as much as we can of any delays. Expect 3 to 6 weeks lead time for most orders. Depending on season and availability it can be only days or can be a long wait even years for some varieties. These will list as available by pre-order. For weekends and Public holidays please note that we will avoid any holdover in depots where we possibly can. If your order needs to be received by a specific date or any other special instructions regarding the delivery there is a delivery comments section on the order form where you can provide this information. Please refrain from contacting us where possible regarding when the delivery will arrive. There is a chronological system in place that ensures customers receive their deliveries in turn. The list of orders is always on screen and constantly monitored for items ready to leave. If you’ve not received a notice that your order is coming it’s most likely not ready yet. Please check if your item is listed as “in stock” or “pre-order” They will both most likely say available. In stock generally means it is in stock at the nursery now. However bear in mind that stock moves very quickly and those changes may not be up to the minute. Best to check stock first if it’s important. Email eumundiroses1@gmail.com In the subject write “CHECK STOCK”. The email will be given priority.
Available by pre-order means you will need to wait until that item returns to stock. This could be a matter of days or can be up to 3 years or more for rare or in high demand difficult to produce varieties. Again please also “CHECK STOCK” Occasionally you may be pleasantly surprised. The stock can be here and not yet entered into inventory. Once an order is paid we do not refund. Please refrain from unpleasant calls, texts and emails over goods you wish to be earlier than they possibly can be. These are not helpful and will be blocked. Urgent orders will be treated as such where marked on the order itself with the date required.

To outer destinations please expect delivery times up to 3 weeks from time of leaving Eumundi. Plants are packed to handle up to a few weeks if necessary but only if the plants are not exposed to heat. Please consider options carefully as these are perishable goods. We would much prefer you could find a way to collect or wait for one of our runs where we deliver ourselves to many areas.
